Netflix has added over 8.8 million new worldwide subscribers during July-September, more than tripling the number gained during the same time last year when Netflix was scrambling to recover from a downturn in customers during the first half of 2021. The increase left Netflix with nearly 243.8 million subscribers. Netflix’s shares have increased by about 30% so far this year.

In a study published in Nature Climate Change, Norwegian researchers said that it’ll be “much cheaper” and “easier to take action against global warming than it’ll be later”. They used two climate models to assess how the Greenland ice sheet would respond to a variety of scenarios. The researchers said that June, July, August and September 2023 saw record high global temperatures.
There is a price hike for Netflix
Netflix has raised the prices of its basic and premium subscription plans in the UK and France. The Basic plan will cost 10.49 in the UK while the Premium plan will cost 199.99. In July, Netflix had stopped offering its $9.99 Basic ad-free plan to new and relapsed users, forcing them to pay more to avoid ads.
X will be charging $1 per year for new users in two countries
Elon Musk-led social media platform X will start charging users in the Philippines and New Zealand $1 (around 80) annually to use the service. The company announced the program, called ‘Not a Bot’, as part of its efforts to curb the presence of “bots” on the site. “By charging…a few dollars or something…it could deter the creation of new fake accounts,” Musk had said.
The Apple Pencil has ausb-clevity
Apple’s new iPad Pencil doesn’t have the double tap feature which lets users switch back and forth between tools, a report said. It also hasn’t been designed to work with Apple’s new USB-C iPad. As per the report, the 10th-generation iPad has been updated to be powered by the M2 chips that Apple launched with the iPad Air last year.
Microsoft completed its acquisition of Call of Duty
Microsoft has finalised its $68.7 billion deal to acquire Activision Blizzard and will now be the “third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony”, the company said. It also announced that Activision, Blizzard, and King’s “much loved library of games” will be available in Game Pass and other platforms. The games will be available on a variety of cloud gaming services.
How to see Saturday’s solar eclipse
A total eclipse of the sun will be visible in the eastern hemisphere on Sunday. The eclipse will last up to three hours, with a partial eclipse taking place around 11:52 am local time. Several US cities will be in the path of the annularity, where only a portion of the Moon covers the sun, making the star look like it’s had a bite.

The Iron Dome, an air defence system made by Israel, has acted as a “lifesaver” in the ongoing conflict with Hamas, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday. Over 5,400 rockets have been fired at Israel since Saturday, the Israeli military said. It added that the ‘Iron Dome’, designed to protect against short-range rockets, successfully neutralized most of them.
X is accused by the EU of being a host for Israel-Hamas misinformation
Thierry Breton, who sued SpaceX for non-compliance with EU’s Digital Services Act, has asked Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for a detailed plan to limit the spread of misinformation. Breton had warned X that non-compliance with DSA could result in an investigation and possible fines. Musk has now written to Breton asking him to list specific violations on the platform publicly.
