AT&T has cellphone service for tens of thousands of people

AT&T Service Outages Revealed by News in Prince William County, Virginia, reported by The Prince William Times on DownDetector.com

The Prince Williams Times reported that emergency services officials in Prince William County said the AT&T service issues had caused a disruption in the dispatch of emergency calls. Customers in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area were unable to call the toll free number. There are no disruptions to our call center’s ability to receive 9-1-1 calls. Service should be back soon.

Around 3:30 a.m. ET Thursday, outages reported by downdetector.com suddenly spiked from just a handful, peaking at more than 73,000 by around 8:20 a.m. Time. By around 10:30 a.m., the number of reports to the website had dropped to just less than 62,000.

“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning,” AT&T spokesperson Jim Greer said in a statement. “We are working urgently to restore service to them. We encourage the use of Wi-Fi calling until service is restored.”

It is hard to say when the AT&T issue will be solved. By 11 am ET, DownDetector incidents had begun to taper off, although over 60,000 people were still reporting issues.

It started around 3:30 in the morning on the East Coast, reports flooding in about an AT&T service outage. Customers complained across Reddit and X and logged their issues on Downdetector, a site that, well, detects when services go down.
