The Switch 2: Towards a Robust New Trade World: Materials Acquisition, Manufacturing, and the Roles of Logistics in High-Spin Games
We now call it handheld gaming because the original Switch really popularized it. More games designed for PCs will be welcome with the switch 2 joy-con mouse capabilities. Will the Switch 2 be a home for as broad a catalog as Steam has with its PC games?
What about chip shortages as we enter into a brave new trade world? How do you make sure that you have enough supply when there are so many parts from all over the world?
I’m unable to say more about our manufacturing process and materials acquisition. I am able to say that we spent a lot of time with our suppliers making sure we have a long term plan for them and filling them up so that we can meet the high side of demand.
We’ve always looked at where we should be having manufacturing based on where volumes are and just other economies. We are mostly located in Southeast Asia but we are always looking for other places to locate our manufacturing to ensure a fulfilled supply chain.
Taking a Vacation to Nintendo.com: The Launch of Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. and Implications for Trade Agreements
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The June 5, 2025, launch date is still unchanged.
We like to think that the year is a year and that there are no specific time frames when you should or must launch video games. And so, as we looked at the games that we had prepared and ready to launch with the hardware, we thought June was a very good timing. It’s the start of summer season, and obviously, with a Nintendo Switch 2, you have a device that you can both play at home and play at home docked like a gaming console, or you can take it out of the dock and take it on the go. It’s a great game for summer travel.
We need to meet the demand that’s out there. We think we have a device in Nintendo Switch 2 and a lot of games from Nintendo, as well as our publishing partners, which are going to be much sought after by consumers. We have built up inventories over the last months, and are in a good position for the launch period. When it comes to issues like scalping or bots, we’re working actively with our retail partners. They have programs in place to prevent a lot of this action, and we depend on those as they sell their products ourselves. We offer products to people with Nintendo accounts first and foremost, which is why we have a unique program within Nintendo.com.

Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour: A game to test tariffs on Japanese goods and services at the end of the April 2nd Nintendo Switch World’s Fair
We’re going to have to assess what impact that may be. Things may change in the days ahead. So we’re just watching and trying to understand what that impact might be and what actions we might have to take.
How will the new tariffs on Japanese goods affect your business, not only for the Switch, but for everything that Nintendo America sells?
Nintendo president Doug Bowser said that the tariffs did not have an effect on the console’s price. The April 2nd announcement should be put aside. Any previous tariffs were not factored into the price itself,“ he explained, speaking to me the day after the event.
That’s how Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour — a game that teaches players details about the Switch 2 and offers tech demos highlighting its key features — ended up as a paid game instead of a free pack-in title like Wii Sports or Astro’s Playroom. A depth of minigame experiences has been packed into the game, as it was being developed. “They’re very deep, they’re very repeatable. We decided that it was a good deal to ask for the depth of play experience and opportunity at $9.99.
