Patreon: Making the switch to inapp purchases more transparent and reassured: Implications for creators and users of easy-to-purchase audiobooks
Last year, Patreon said it was forced to switch to Apple’s inapp purchase system which applied a 30 percent fee to all new memberships, or it would be removed from the App Store.
“When we first announced rolling out Apple’s IAP requirements last year, we shared that we used three principles to guide our decision in how we wanted to move forward: transparency, control, and stability,” Taylor says. “Keeping with those principles, we’re exploring further action we can take, and we’ll continue to keep creators and fans posted on any changes to our experience.”
In order to allow US customers to make payments that aren’t Apple’s, the company has submitted an update to its app. The major update submission came just a day after Wednesday’s major epic games v Apple ruling where the court ruled that Apple must not take a cut of non-Apple payments and that developers cannot be forced to tell users about outside payments.
