John Hopfield and the Chemistry Nobel Laureate, Heiner Linke, are both 50-year-olds with an unrealistic desire to make a difference
On the same day he was awarded the most prestigious in science, John Hopfield was also awarded the biggest prize in physics for his work with artificial intelligence. Hassabis said during the press conference after his win that the committee made a statement when they had the two together.
The scientific applications for AlphaFold2 include helping researchers to understand antibiotic resistance and develop plastic degrading enzymes, according to the Nobel committee. This year’s chemistry Laureates have given work that used to take years a quick boost.
This year, there’s one discovery that concerns the construction of a spectacular proteins. Heiner Linke, the chair of the chemistry committee, said that the other is about fulfilling a 50-year-old dream. Both of these discoveries have a lot of possibilities.
She doesn’t know which route this week’s decisions signify. She is certain that the changes will make a difference to the future of research.
When Hassabis got the chemistry prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, his wife began to get calls from aSwedish number on the internet.
