High-Resolution Pictures of Nintendo’s Next Console: The Mockup of What It Says is a Deck-like Successor of the Switch
Nintendo isn’t officially at CES, but it might have stolen the show anyway: accessories-maker Genki brought a 3D-printed mockup of what it says is Nintendo’s Switch successor, and we got to hold it and take some high-resolution pictures.
Based on the mockup of what we’ll call the Switch 2, Nintendo’s next console appears to be wider than the original, with slightly larger Joy-Con controllers that seem like they’ll be more comfortable to hold. The Joy-Cons that are in the game feel small, in part because they are not as pronounced andErgonomic as the Deck’s grips. The mockup still feels small compared to the original Switch.
Eddie Tsai, Genki’s co-Founder and CEO, told The Hive that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have Joy-Cons that are attached to the console via magnets, instead of a sliding rail. If you want to remove a Joy-Con from the Switch2, you can press a button in the back of the controller, and the pins will be pushed out against the console.
There is an optical sensor in the mounting channel of the Joy-Cons and by using an attachment it may offer mouse-like functions. It sounds a bit like what Lenovo does with its Legion Go handheld.
The Switch 2 will have a power button, volume rocker, 3.5mm headphones, a game card slot, and ausb-c port, according to the renders. According to OnLeaks and 91 Mobiles, there might be an ambient light sensor or something else. Other leaks had a U-shaped kickstand that has appeared in these renders.
Hopefully, given the tidal wave of recent leaks, we don’t have to wait too much longer for Nintendo to officially announce the new console. But whenever the console actually launches, it’s going to have some stiff competition.
The renders also show an interesting color scheme for the Joy-Cons: they are mostly black but have color accents — light blue on the left one and orange on the right — under the joystick pads and on the bumped-out part of the controllers with the SL and SR buttons. A similar design popped up earlier this month for an alleged Switch 2 left Joy-Con with light blue accents. Personally, I love it.
