A report said that Amazon would post import charges

Amazon Haul: Jeff Bezos vowed to drop the price of imported products, but Trump didn’t want to censor it

Jeff Bezos had no choice but to insist that the tariffs be displayed on the website. None. Zero. He will become one of history’s least principled cowardices if he doesn’t insist on it.

Trump told reporters later in the day that Bezos “did the right thing” after the president called him to discuss the reported plan for Amazon to show how tariff costs were increasing prices.

Amazon caved almost immediately. “The team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store considered the idea of listing import charges on certain products. The company was never approved for this and it wasn’t going to happen, Tim told us.

The tariffs imposed by the Trump administration — including a 10% tariff on global imports and a 145% tariff on Chinese goods — have companies and economic experts warning that prices could likely rise for American consumers.

He said that people should strive to buy products made in the U.S. “It’s another reason why we are onshoring critical supply chains here at home, to shore up our own critical supply chain and boost our own manufacturing here.”

Do I Stand Up for Free Markets? How Amazon, Facebook, and The Post Address Bezos’s Unpopular Decree

Bezos has been supportive of Trump. Amazon donated to Trump’s inauguration fund, and Bezos attended the ceremony in January. The management of the Post did not endorse a presidential candidate for the first time in 36 years. NPR reported that the announcement came after an endorsement for Harris by the newspaper’s editorial page editor.

We are going to support and defend both free markets and personal liberties every day. I am of America, and proud to be so, and we will cover other topics as well, but the viewpoints against those pillars will be published by others. Our country couldn’t get to it by being typical. And a big part of America’s success has been freedom in the economic realm and everywhere else. Freedom is ethical — it minimizes coercion — and practical — it drives creativity, invention, and prosperity.”

Well buddy, chaotic ChatGPT-designed tariff schemes that threaten to crush small businesses across the country are not “free markets,” the basic definition of which requires the market to set prices, not unhinged madmen who believe they run the world. At the minimum, I’d expect to see the Post in full attack mode here, since threatening your baby for merely displaying price information is so far from “free markets” it’s breathtaking.

You may ask about retribution. Amazon is already doing things in the best interests of their shareholders and Jeff should do the same. Let’s ask Jeff — here’s what he wrote to readers in regards to how his wealth affects the editorial decisions of the Post, with my emphasis added.

We can either see my business and wealth as conflicting interests or a bulwark against intimidation. Only my own principles can tip the balance from one to the other. I assure you that my track record as owner of The Post since 2013) supports my views here, and they are in fact principled. You can make your own decision, but I challenge you to remember that over the past 11 years, I prevailed upon everyone at The Post in favor of my own interests. It hasn’t happened.”
