Amazon Web Services (AWS) unveiled three new AI-powered content generation models, Nova Canvas, Nova Reel and Anthropic, at AWS re:Invent 2019 in Las Vegas. The two models are an image generation model and the other is a content generation model. Amazon said it has watermarking capabilities for the content generation models. It’s collaborating with Anthropic to build a huge AI cluster.
It may be banned for data brokers to sell your social security number
The US’ Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is seeking comments on a proposed rule that would limit the ability of data brokers to sell Americans’ sensitive personal and financial information. Under the proposed rule, data brokers that sell information about consumers’ income, credit history, credit score or debt payments would be considered consumer reporting agencies. The rule will be out for public comment until March 3.

Australia will be the first country to ban social media for children under the age of 16
Australia’s Parliament has passed the Children’s Online Social Media use Protection Act (CFT) which would require platforms to remove under-age users from their platforms. The law requires platforms to “identify and remove underage users” from its platforms. Earlier, Meta Co-founder Ed Kovacic said the bill was “inconsistent and ineffective” and urged the Australian government to delay passing it.

Cooperative steering can influence the driving behaviour of autonomous, self-driving, and self- assisting vehicles, a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) said. It asked 1,260 owners of Ford, General Motors, Nissan/Ingall ProPilot Assist and Tesla vehicles equipped with partial automation who regularly use the technology. The survey was carried out on vehicles equipped with ADAS (advanced driver assist systems).

DJI has launched the DJI Mic Mini, which features a mini wireless receiver and a micro-simulator for high-Resolution Audio Recording. The receiver connects to other devices over USB-C, Lightning and a 3.5mm audio cable and features a dial with five gain settings to adjust the level of incoming sound. The mic transmitters can connect directly to smartphones and mobile devices over Bluetooth.

The US has said that it is “concerned” about the launch of long-range missiles by Russia into Ukrainian territory. “We support Ukraine’s sovereign right to defend itself against Russian actions, but we are concerned about the potential risk to US personnel and bases,” it added. Earlier this week, Ukraine fired a series of US-made longer-range missiles into Russia for the first time.

Google has been asked by Justice Department to either divest from Android phones or have the court supervise its Android division to monitor any possible instances of Google using Android to kneecap rivals. In August, Justice Department ruled that Google had acted as an illegal monopoly in its search engine and had to be brought to justice.

AI chipmaker Nvidia has reported a net profit of $1 billion for the fourth quarter of 2020, up from $91 million in the year-ago period. The company’s revenue rose 94% to $35.1 billion, beating analysts’ estimates of $33.2 billion. Chief Executive Patrick Moorhead said, “I’m proud of our team and the impact we have had on our customers and the world.”
