General Motors is cutting funding for its plan to ride a robot
General Motors (GM) on Tuesday said it will acquire the remaining shares of self-driving car startup Cruise Automation, which has been shut down since October 2020. The remaining shares will be purchased by GM and Cruise’s Board will determine the next steps, which include layoffs or simply shutting down. GM plans to sell vehicles which will drive autonomously on some roads.

General Motors has said its self-driving car startup Cruise is shutting down its operations. The startup, acquired by the carmaker in April last year, had tested its vehicles for a limited time in several cities this summer. “We have decided that it’s not appropriate to continue Cruise’s operations or to invest in it,” GM CEO Mary Barra said.
