Technology to stop drunk drivers could be coming to every new car
The US NHTSA on Tuesday proposed passive detection of drunk and impaired driving in cars, saying it could help end the problem of deaths due to traffic crashes in the country. Congress ordered the NHTSA to develop regulations requiring advanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology in vehicles. The agency said that any technology that becomes standard will have to be passive.
The artificial Intelligence system was a force in 2023 for good and not so good
Researchers have suggested that artificial intelligence (AI) should be used only when the data and parameters are aligned with expected results. AI provides a tool that allows researchers to play with data and parameters until the results are aligned with the expectations, said Lior Shamir, a computer scientist at Tel Aviv University. It has also helped in writing manuscripts, he added.
Brain-wide correspondence of neuronal epigenomics
We used the Python package Cell Oracle52 to infer GRNs for each cell across the whole mouse brain based on our integration analysis between our snATAC–seq data and the scRNA-seq data5. The CCA framework was used to find anchors between the two datasets, and the transformed PCs of retro-seq were aligned to the scRNA-seq PCs.
The mouse brain has a high-resolution transcriptomic and spatial atlas of cell types
A high-resolution atlas of cell types in the Whole Mouse Brain using Taxonomy Tree and Clustering Methods has been developed. Jaccard-Leiden clustering was used to determine the total number of cells in each cluster. The data were obtained from the CCFv3-based microdissections of the mouse brain and the cells were separated into L4, L3 and L4 clusters.
There is stark inequality in global research publishing data
The average LDC government invests 0.21% of Gross Domestic Product in research and development, compared with an average of 0.93% across all countries, according to the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. “Our joint proposal received funding from Canada’s International Development Research Centre. We ask our students to go there for three- six months to conduct research using their equipment,” IDRC said.
The autopilot problem will be addressed with an update for every car sold in the US
Nearly all of Tesla’s new Model S, X, and 3 vehicles sold in US are getting a software update to fix a defect in the company’s Autopilot system. This comes after a two-year investigation by NHTSA showed that there may not be enough to prevent driver misuse when the system is engaged. The update includes additional controls and alerts.
Tim Sweeney was talking about Epic’s win over Google
Don Harrison, a defendant in Apple antitrust trial, said he was “disappointed” that even at peak of the antitrust trial against Microsoft, Microsoft was awesome to developers. “Even at peak, Microsoft was awesome to developers,” he added. Harrison further said he doesn’t think Google leaked to the press. He added that it was “really…interesting” to see what Google was doing behind the scenes.
Claudine Gay won’t step down for testimony about antisemitism
The case against Harvard President Larry Gay’s explanation for Israel-Hamnas discrimination isn’t about high school presidents being responsible for anti-Israel students, a communication professor said. “There is a huge amount of pressure right now on college presidents…to restrain student protests,” Jason Shepard said. Gay’s explanation for Israel-Hamnas discrimination was criticised by several US lawmakers and students after a congressional hearing.
An Illegal Monopoly was Ruled by the App Store
Google violated federal and California antitrust laws with deals that stifled competition for its Play mobile app store, a jury found on Thursday. The verdict comes after a four- week trial revolving around a lucrative payment system within the Play store. The verdict was unanimous after just three hours of deliberations. Apple prevailed in a similar case that Epic brought against the iPhone store.
In a lawsuit, the jury found that the app store had ruled an illegal Monopoly
Google and Epic Games have agreed to mediation instead of a trial after a US judge ruled that Apple’s fight against Google over its App Store had nothing to do with apps. The judge ruled that he didn’t intend to decide what percentage fee Google should charge for products. Epic Games had filed the lawsuit in 2020 over Google’s App Store.
