Nuclear clocks are close to being one tick closer
A team of physicists has demonstrated that a portable nuclear clock that would help detect light dark matter could be made using thorium-229 atoms. “It becomes insensitive in a way that is kind of unthinkable in terms of how our clocks work today,” said Anne Curtis, an experimental physicist at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
The atomic clock breakthrough paves the way for super-precise timekeeping
Researchers at the Johns Hopkins University have found a way to detect the decay in the first energy state of the thorium-229, which could lead to the development of a nuclear clock. They used a system known as a Frequency Comb to detect the transition frequency. This could help narrow down the possible energy ranges in which light dark matter could exist.
The Internet Archive lost its appeal
The US Court of Appeals in the Second Circuit has upheld a lower court’s ruling in favour of the Internet Archive against the National Library of Digital Books (NEL). The internet archive had challenged the NEL, which allowed people to check out the scanned copies of library books as though they’re regular reading material instead of ebooks.

Data privacy and intellectual property have hidden risks
Uri Gal, ancian at the University of Sydney in Australia, said, “Right now, we don’t really have a good way of making AI forget, so there are still a lot of constraints on using these models in health-care settings.” He added, “There’s no way to know who did what and where the information is coming from and who should be credited.”
Everything you need to know about Intel’s first laptop chip, the lunar lake
