If the company finds that its app store is illegal, it will be required to pay $700 million

Google announced that it will contribute $650 million into a settlement fund to settle an antitrust lawsuit by several states against it. It will also pay $70 million to the states to settle the case. It has also agreed not to let developers link to their own websites to give customers discounted rates on Play Store.

Don Harrison, a defendant in Apple antitrust trial, said he was “disappointed” that even at peak of the antitrust trial against Microsoft, Microsoft was awesome to developers. “Even at peak, Microsoft was awesome to developers,” he added. Harrison further said he doesn’t think Google leaked to the press. He added that it was “really…interesting” to see what Google was doing behind the scenes.

The company’s CEO will be a star witness in the trial

Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Monday took the stand during the ongoing antitrust trial of the US Department of Justice (DOJ). Pichai was called by Alphabet to testify at the trial over whether Google abused its market dominance in search to suppress competition. Pichai also led the team that built the company’s Chrome browser.
