To be effective, artificial watermarking needs to be watertight
Researchers at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology have shown that watermarks are vulnerable to being removed and/or to being spoofed, the process of applying them to text to give false impression that it is artificial intelligence. Drone-mounted LiDAR scans reveal two remote cities buried high in Central Asia. The researchers also showed how a digital watermark could help identify AI-generated text.
Microsoft’s copilot artificial intelligence has a voice, vision, and a “hype man” persona
Microsoft has launched ‘Copilot Vision’, a feature that allows users to use Copilot’s artificial intelligence (AI) to see and explore their content while they’re away from their devices. Copilot Vision is currently available for a select group of Copilot Pro subscribers in the US. The feature works with websites that are restricted by Microsoft so it doesn’t work on paywalled and sensitive content.
Machine learning is driven by profit so Rage against it
Researchers from Brazil, Israel and India have developed a plan to create a facility for academic scientists to keep up with industry in terms of infrastructure when it comes to artificial intelligence. Reportedly, the plan aims to set up a facility that would help academic researchers stay ahead of industry in terms of infrastructure.
We use the ReImagine tool to change wrecks, disasters, and corpses into our photos
Google’s Pixel 9 Magic Editor, which is part of Pixel Studio, was unable to generate images with the artificial intelligence-backed SynthID watermark, as per reports. Google had announced the creation of the SynthID watermark last year, however, it has been stuck in the usual standards. The Pixel 9 Magic Editor took less than 10 seconds to create each image, reports added.
Wear this friend around your neck
Australian billionaire Peter Schiffmann has launched a new AI device called ‘FRIEND’, which will be an artificial intelligence companion. Schiffmann, who is the Founder of Silicon Valley-based tech startup VoxX, plans to build more devices with artificial intelligence features like Replika and Character that can go everywhere with users. Schiffmann claims he has paid $1.8 million for Friend.
Meta’s New Llama 3.1 is free, powerful, and risky
Internet company Meta has announced the release of Llama 3.1, the largest-ever open-source artificial intelligence model. It claims that the model’s performance outperforms the GPT-4o and Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet on several benchmarks. It added a feature that could generate images based on someone’s specific likeness, one of the ways it’s making the llama-based Meta AI assistant available in more countries and languages.
Apple, Anthropic, and other companies used videos on YouTube to train their machines
Over 100 videos from The Verge are included in an interactive dataset that helps users find content being used to train artificial intelligence (AI) models. The dataset includes videos from the likes of YouTubers PewDiePie, MrBeast and Jacksepticeye among others. It is available on The Verge’s website, where users can use its search feature to find their content.
Climate change is a major contributor to the emissions of Microsoft and Google
Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered data centers in the US are expected to be using 8% of total power in the country by 2030, up from 3% in 2022, Goldman Sachs said. The amount of power being used by data centres in the US will be “the likes of which hasn’t been seen in a generation”, it added.
The one ring that could be the one ring to rule is the GALAXY ring by SAMSUNG
Samsung has released a new smart ring that uses artificial intelligence to provide personalised insights into users’ health and well-being. The Energy Score and Wellness tips feature uses AI to determine feelings based on sleep, activity, and sleeping heart rate variability. Some other health features include cycle tracking and a high and low heart rate alert.
Apple intelligence won’t be able to work on hundreds of millions of phones
Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the rest of us.” The letter ‘AI’ was written in the keynote address at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference. Cook further said, “It became clear…People wanted to know our views of generative AI in particular.” AI is a subset of machine-learning that aims to identify, predict and train intelligent human beings.
