You can now pay via the app on your phone
Music streaming service Patreon is planning to submit an update to its iOS app to allow creators to accept payments outside of Apple’s payment system. The planned update follows yesterday’s ruling in Epic Games’ case which barred Apple from collecting fees on payments made outside of apps. Spotify will also submit an app update to Apple, enhancing the experience for consumers.
Now, after suing both Google and Samsung, it’s Epic’s turn
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said Google’s third-party app store Auto Blocker isn’t designed to protect users against malware. “It’s designed to prevent competition,” he added. Epic has filed a lawsuit against Google and its partners, accusing them of obstruction of competition in the digital space. The lawsuit further claims that Google’s third-party app store is “an exceptionally onerous 21-step process”.
A judge hints at plans for a store for illegal games
A US judge has said that Google will have to do things in a “different way” to comply with a jury’s antitrust verdict against it. The judge said Google would have to change its business as a penalty. In December, the jury had ruled that Google was unfairly giving advantage to itsPlay app store to Epic Games and other app developers.
Disney invests money in the game to make apersistent universe
Disney has announced it is investing $1 billion in US-based developer Epic Games to create a “persistent universe”. The new universe will include content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and more, the firm said. It will also collaborate with the makers of the ‘Rocket League’ game to release a Mandalorian-themed update complete with a Grogu car topper.
In a lawsuit, the jury found that the app store had ruled an illegal Monopoly
Google and Epic Games have agreed to mediation instead of a trial after a US judge ruled that Apple’s fight against Google over its App Store had nothing to do with apps. The judge ruled that he didn’t intend to decide what percentage fee Google should charge for products. Epic Games had filed the lawsuit in 2020 over Google’s App Store.
