It will take at least several weeks to clear Baltimore’s shipping channel
The US city of Baltimore has closed its port for several days after a huge container ship crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The debris from the ship’s crash is being removed so that maritime traffic can resume. The closure of the shipping channel is costing $191 million a day in lost economic activity, the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 333 said.

US National Transportation Safety Board chief Azizinamini said the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland, US, last week has made bridges safer for cargo ships. She added that the earlier crash of the Florida Skyway Bridge in 1980 had led to the deaths of 35 people. The Key Bridge collapsed after a large ship collided with it.
