There is a risk in the end of Cruise

General Motors’ Cruise will be “reorganisation and refocusing” as part of the automaker’s efforts to develop self-driving personal cars, CEO Mary Barra said. The automaker will focus on developing partially automated driver-assist systems for personal vehicles like its Super Cruise which allows drivers to take their hands away from the steering wheel. It aims to sell “Level 4” vehicles to car buyers.

General Motors is cutting funding for its plan to ride a robot

General Motors (GM) on Tuesday said it will acquire the remaining shares of self-driving car startup Cruise Automation, which has been shut down since October 2020. The remaining shares will be purchased by GM and Cruise’s Board will determine the next steps, which include layoffs or simply shutting down. GM plans to sell vehicles which will drive autonomously on some roads.

General Motors has said its self-driving car startup Cruise is shutting down its operations. The startup, acquired by the carmaker in April last year, had tested its vehicles for a limited time in several cities this summer. “We have decided that it’s not appropriate to continue Cruise’s operations or to invest in it,” GM CEO Mary Barra said.

The Big Three autoworkers are about to go on strike

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union has said that it will go on strike on September 25 over a contract offer from the Big Three US automakers. The union claims its members have made big concessions over the last 20 years because of foreign competition and the economic downturn. The Big Three are General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler.
