A clinical trial has taken place in Texas, US, to test the use of donor cells to treat end-stage liver disease. Healthy donor cells cannot be injected directly into a disease-causing liver because they won’t survive, LyGenesis chief scientific officer Eric Lagasse said. The trial was approved by US regulators in 2020 and will measure safety, survival and quality of life after treatment.
