Nintendo boss on Switch 2 and tariffs: we are assessing what the impact may be
Nintendo has said that it will not start pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the US on April 9, 2025 in order to assess its potential impact on tariffs and evolving market conditions. “As we looked at the games that we had prepared and ready to launch with the hardware, we thought June was a very good timing,” it added.
The Switch 2 era comes at a steep price
Nintendo has announced that there’ll be no preorders for the Switch 2 on April 9. This comes after US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on imported video game software and hardware. “We are delaying the launch of the Switch 2 because we want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to experience it,” a Nintendo spokesman told The Verge.

Nintendo unveiled its Joy-Cons at its event, and revealed that they’ll be compatible with the Switch 2. They’re about a half-inch Longer and Black, with colour accents on the connection rails and under the analog sticks. There is a new ‘C’ button on the Joy-Cons that is used for a feature called Gamechat that lets you talk to friends using a microphone in the top of the Switch 2.

Talking about the new Nintendo Switch 2 controller, Nintendo said it can be played with any of the existing Joy-Cons or with any of the games installed on the original console. It added it’s compatible with the gamepad of both the Nintendo Switch and the Wii U. The Switch 2 can also be played with the Wii U’s Joy-Cons.

Nintendo’s Senior Producer Kouichi Kawamoto has said the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons “have larger and more durable” analog sticks “with smoother movement”. The company says the Joy-Cons are quieter and will last for 20 hours between charges, and 3.5 hours after that. The controllers will last for around 20 hours between charges and 3.5 hours, which is similar to the original Joy-Cons.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is playing safe
Nintendo has announced the launch of Switch 2, the second iteration of its hybrid console, which will be available on April 2. The new console will come with both the Nintendo Switch and Legend of Zelda games on board. Earlier, Nintendo had said that it plans to sell over 100 lakh Switch 2 units in the first quarter of 2021.
There are unanswered questions about the Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2, which was launched earlier this year, has a bigger screen with a pair of Black and Pink and Blue Joy-Cons. The console also features a second USB-C port at the top. Nintendo has also released a video showing a new game called Mario Kart which is being developed by Kyoto-based Kyoto Game Studios.

Japanese accessories-maker Genki has released a 3D-printed mockup of what it says is Nintendo’s Switch 2. The mockup was produced using 3D printing technology to show the full size of the Joy-con controllers that are expected to be part of the console. Genki Co-founder Eddie Tsai said the Joy-con will be attached to the console via magnets, instead of a sliding rail.
Nintendo’s original alarm clock prototypes were not very playful
Nintendo has revealed the first prototype of its new alarm clock, Alarmo, which has a motion sensor. The prototype, which was built in 2016 and is currently undergoing testing, has a dial on the top and a second on the side. “The system that serves as the brain of…alarm clock is in the base,” said Tetsuya Akama, the director of Alarmo project.
Delta is an app that won’t get taken down
An Android app called ‘Delta’ has released to allow users to emulate Nintendo and other system-Independent Controllers with high- resolution screen resolutions. It features on-screen buttons that change the layout and appearance to match whatever system you’re emulating. It supports Bluetooth controllers like Xbox One Series S or PS5 controllers, too, and lets you customise their layout or set extra buttons.
