Northern Rio Grande

The oral history and genetics of the US Southwest is consistent with the Native American culture

A study in Nature found that ancient Pueblos in the Northern Rio Grande (NRG) region were contemporaneous with early Chaco, whereas archaeological, historic and modern pueblos provide evidence of NRG cultural continuity. The oral traditions of present-day Puebloans and many lines of scholarly evidence support a relationship with the nature of Chaco Canyon. The study offered a model for equitable collaborations between Indigenous communities and scientists.
