Beeper was acquired by automattic which has big plans for the future of messaging

Beeper, a messaging app, has been bought by Pebble Technologies in a $125 million all-cash deal. Beeper’s Co-founders will lead the combined messaging team, which will initially use an open-source protocol called Matrix. Beeper has been acquired by Pebble, which is known for its open-source approach to software and e-ink display. Pebble was founded in 2010 and appealed to the nerd crowd.
