There is self-assembly with atomic-scale confinement

Sub-Nanometre Dielectric bowtie cavities from single Silicon atoms can be fabricated using surface forces that act on objects more than 10 times the size of a single atom, a study has shown. The cavities can be fabricated by using controlled,nano and directional collapses, enabling miniatureaturised devices with a few- or even sub-metre dimensions.
