You can now pay via the app on your phone
Music streaming service Patreon is planning to submit an update to its iOS app to allow creators to accept payments outside of Apple’s payment system. The planned update follows yesterday’s ruling in Epic Games’ case which barred Apple from collecting fees on payments made outside of apps. Spotify will also submit an app update to Apple, enhancing the experience for consumers.
There is a new technology that will help you recap your listening habits
Spotify has launched a feature to analyse users’ listening habits, which could be used to build a personalised lifestyle. The feature is available on users’ homepages and will ask them questions like, “How good were you on January 9, 2015?” and “Why did you want to listen like it was Christmas?” Users will be able to see the longest listening streak for their top five artists.
Apple might allow the pricing options outside of its app to be shown in the EU
Spotify is planning to change Apple’s anti-steering rules which would allow it to provide users with pricing information within the app and link users to subscription options. Earlier, the European Commission imposed a $2 billion fine on Apple for abuse of its dominant position in the music streaming app distribution business. This comes after US courts ruled Apple must allow developers to link out to other payment methods.
Is the service messed up?
Spotify’s brand safety executive Styles said, “We’ll continue to allocate capital towards the highest return opportunities for the business, both internally and externally.” He added, “Brand safety has always been a team effort and will continue to be overseen by the leaders.” Spotify has fired about 1,800 workers in the last few years. The company will reportedly eliminate around 1,500 jobs.
