The world’s first brain implant lets a man speak and sing
A US-based team of researchers has said it has made a world-first implant that translates neural activity into words almost instantly. The implant was implanted in the left hemisphere of a 45-year-old man with severe speech disability. It translates neural activity into words using a Stereotactic Mic Decoder. To assess intelligibility of voice synthesis from neural activity and biosignals, naive human listeners recorded 30 synthesized trials.
Is Apple about to finally launch a true voice activated device?
Apple is working on a voice-based assistant, Siri, to interact with the company’s own apps to help users better understand what they want and respond to their queries, Bloomberg reported. Siri will reportedly be able to take actions for users inside of Apple’s own apps, potentially making the assistant far more capable than it is today.
