Ford is first in line with other electric vehicles now that the Charging Network is open
The Impact of Public Charging on Electric Vehicle Drivers: The Revival of EV’s Bugbear in the U.S.
Ford said that its customers can access the “vast majority” of Tesla’s network using the adapter, Williams said. The older V2 Superchargers and V3 stalls won’t be available to Ford owners.
“We are supply constrained as we move forward,” Williams said. Demand will exceed supply, but we will try to accommodate that on a first-come, first-served basis.
The most reliable and widespread charging network in the US is provided byTesla. (In fact, the new survey found that upscale EV drivers are more likely to be happy with public charging—and the majority of them drive Teslas.) It also has a unique charging plug, called the North American Charging Standard. The electric vehicles of nearly every global automaker now have that plug-in, allowing drivers to tap into the charging network.
Ford and other companies have pledged that they will produce EV’s with factory installed NACS ports. Those vehicles aren’t expected to come any sooner than 2025.
Every six months, the automotive research company JD Power surveys some 5,000 US electric vehicle owners about their experiences driving their battery-powered cars. The latest edition of this survey, out this week, found that EV’s perennial bugbear is still bugbear-ing. Drivers say they are even more dissatisfied with public charging stations than a year ago.
