The New Look at the New Series 9 Water-sports-related Watch, Available in Pre-Order via the Phone App and WatchOS 11
The Series 9 was thinner and lighter than the Watch Series 10. It has a bigger and brighter display than ever before, and even bigger than the already huge Watch Ultra, which is designed to read at any angle, and it also has the first wide-angle display that is 40 percent brighter than its predecessor. It’s almost 10 percent lighter than the Series 9 despite its increase.
Every year, the watch is updated with new features. This year, that feature is sleep apnea detection. The company has been working on machine-policing for sleep apnea detection. The most highly anticipated health feature was tracking for hypertension, or high blood pressure, and that has not shown up on the Apple Watch yet—probably because earlier this year, Apple was ordered to stop selling watches with blood oxygen sensing because of a patent dispute with Masimo Corp.
The Watch Ultra 2 didn’t get a big update, but instead gets some new styling. A new black finish is part of the package, as well as a black Milanese loop that is meant to be used for water sports. On the screen, users will get a whole new slew of water-sports-related features. It’s worth noting here, though, that even though this watch looks amazing, you might not want to lose blood oxygen sensing if you have an older model, which arrived with the Watch Series 6. Most of the exciting new updates, like Apple Intelligence and new comprehensive health algorithms, arrive on the watch via the phone app and WatchOS 11 anyway.
Preorder the Series 10 today for $399 and it will ship on September 20. Pre-ordering the new Watch Ultra 2 today will get you a timepiece on September 20.
The Ultra 2 is hard to drive, but it is definitely a pleasure to get’momentum’ on a black Ultra 2
The rounded corners make it look softer than it actually is, and it has a jet- black aluminum finish that is reflective. It still comes in the popular rose gold and silver. It also features new hardware upgrades to make it thinner and lighter. Most notable are a new metal backing that integrates the antenna into the housing, and new thin speakers that can actually play music and podcasts.
Speaking of colors, yes, the all-black Ultra 2 is quite fetching. As is the jet black model for the regular Series 10. Batman would buy himself a watch like this. The new clasp on the black Ultra 2 Milanese loop is not easy to use.
I tried on every iteration of Series 10 and didn’t like it. And as much as it’s tempting to eye-roll a bigger, thinner display, it really makes a difference once you slip one on. The Ultra 2 is my daily driver, and the weight difference between it and my regular car was huge. The titanium models also look slick, particularly the new rose gold color.
